Multiple freezes on Surface Pro 3 Windows 10

Tom Schmidt shared this problem 2 years ago

I have a Surface Pro 3 running Windows 10 Professional (installed from factory, not upgraded from Windows 8.1), 8GB memory I5 CPU. I have tried DuOS 64-bit versions 1.0.17.7563 and 2.0.5.7943 and both have similar issues. Launching the web browser freezes DuOS. I cannot use the Amazon Appstore, as it freezes DuOS when I try to login to my Amazon account (I can enter my E-mail address, but then it freezes DuOS for the password field). I can install the Google Apps add-on, and run the Google Play Store, and downloaded the TiVo application. TiVo works with 1.0, but 2.0 does not support the video driver to stream my TiVo to the tablet.

I also installed Chrome browser from Google Play, and it also freezes DuOS. Too many core applications don't work at all, freezing DuOS such that I have to kill DuOS with Task Manager to recover. Attached are the requested logs from my system.

My trial version has just a few days left, so without this being a functional application, please assure me that a paid version WILL FUNCTION on my Surface Pro 3 Windows 10 tablet. Searching the DuOS support forum shows a lot of reports of Surface Pro compatibility issues.

I also enabled installing applications from unknown sources and downloaded the current Amazon Underground app from http://www.amazon.com/underground (which is their current replacement for the Amazon Appstore). It likewise freezes DuOS upon trying to login to Amazon, and my only way to recover is to kill the DuOS application from Windows Task Manager.

Once I posted this support issue to the forum it tagged it with an Orange "Known" tag, Since this is a known issue, what is the workaround or when can we expect this bug to be fixed?

Thanks

The paid application works no differently. there is no speed increase or improvement in stability. I have requested a refund via their PayPal email address and through the web site. It's been a week and still no reply :(. I am about to turn to twitter and facebook to express my thoughts on AMI and DuOs.

As was suggested in another thread, I tried to run DuOS in Windows 7 compatibility mode (for all users). It still freezes the same as before.

I do hope that the DebugView log that I sent helps the developers to figure out why DuOS won't work on a brand new Windows 10 Pro Surface 3 Pro system. I have a couple days left on my trial version, so hopefully they have a fix before my trial expires.

Hello Tom,

Could you please provide the Android events log to debug further. Please follow the below steps to do so,

  1. Download and save this Android Events log tool in Windows
  2. Launch AMIDuOS.
  3. Run the Android Events log tool in Windows
  4. Kindly reproduce the hanging/freezing problem in AMIDuOS
  5. Check for log.txt in C:\ProgramData\AMI\DuOS\Shared\tmp location #ProgramData folder would be hidden in C:\ drive
  6. Attach it here to debug the problem

Tom,

As analyzed the given log file, we are observing problems in Dalvik/ART on your copy of AMIDuOS.

Could you please do a clean installation of AMIDuOS once and observe the hanging and crashing issues.

Kindly take a copy of datafs.vdi and sdcard.vdi from C:\Users\<User name>\.DuOS before clean installation so that we can restore your data after the observation.

We suggesting to download and apply the appropriate gapps package corresponding to the Android version you have installed.

Thanks again for your cooperation.

Vasanth,

I saved the vdi files as requested, uninstalled and reinstalled duos-x64-1.0.17.7563. I then ran DuOS, (2 days left of trial) and clicked on the web browser, which immediately froze the desktop with the image capture attached. Also attached are logs from new runs of DuOSAndroidLog and DuOSEventLog. Note that gapps package is not installed. When I go to your site for gapps download, only Link1 is valid for Jellybean.

Since my trial is about to expire, how do I extend my trial since it does not reset this counter when uninstalled?

Also, I rebooted between uninstall and reinstall. I have reinstalled multiple times over the trial period, and tried the Lollipop release as well. All crash as I originally reported.

Tom,

Thanks for providing the recent log files. These files has been forwarded to development team. We will update you the status once.

Kindly note that the trial period on your device has been reset now. Please delete the duos_trial.lic file in C:\ProgramData\AMI\DuOS and relaunch AMIDuOS to reset at your end.

If you wish to restore your installed apps, please replace with copied VDI files to same folder and launch it.

Hi Tom.

Have you had any more news of AMIDuOS running on your Surface 3 Pro? My Surface 3 still will not run the program. I think a bit part of the problem for me is it originally installed AMI DuOS when my Surface was running Window8.1, this have Virtualisation active within Windows OS.

After my Surface upgraded to Windows10, this installed on the basic windows 10 and not the Pro version so Vitualisation, although supported by the CPU/Bios, it is not allowed to run as part of the OS, it is disabled.

So unless we pay out for the Windows 10 Pro licence, running anything like AMIDuOS is going to be impossible....thanks Microsoft!

Would be great to know how your experience with AMIDuOS turns out.

Thanks Tim. (tim@tmebiz.co.uk)

I have not received any update from AMIDuOS other than they refreshed my 30 day trial. It still freezes repeatedly as I originally reported with Windows 10 Professional on my Surface Pro 3 i5 8GB.

Vasanth,

So far my testing of AMIDuos 2.0.6.8063 is working with applications that I have tried except for TiVo. I had this same problem with 2.0 previously, but it did work with duos-x64-1.0.17.7563. The error received is in the attached screenshot:

Problem Streaming

Streaming is not supported on your device

Error Code:E=54, V=-1

Another user has also reported this error at http://amiduos.com/support/topic/tivo-app-streaming-issue-streaming-is-not-supported-on-your-device-error-code-e54-v1 and it is marked as Known. Any suggestions on how to fix this issue? The TiVo app claims to be compatible with Android 4.1 and later, so it should work with 5.1.1.

Also, now that this is working pretty good on my Surface Pro 3 with Windows 10 Pro, I will be purchasing it! Thank you for fixing the bugs.

Thanks...Tom

Vasanth,

If the TiVo application issue can't be fixed in 2.0.X, can the other fixes be back ported to the Android 4.2.2 (DuOS 1.0.17.7563) 64-bit version? As I said before, the TiVo application could stream video with 1.0.17, but it had all the same other stability issues on the Surface Pro 3 as the previous DuOS 2.0.5.7943

Or is there a way to be able to select the version of DuOS to run, either 2.0.X and 1.0.X. That way I can use 1.0.17 for TiVo and 2.0.5 for everything else until 2.0.X is fixed for the TiVo app. Uninstalling and reinstalling versions is not acceptable for this, as I loose all settings, installed apps, etc.

I also tried varying the resolution settings (Moderate Resolution and Manual DPI=120,160,240) for DuOS but TiVo app gave the same "Streaming is not supported on your device Error Code:E=54, V=-1" error when trying to stream to my tablet.

Thanks...Tom

You will also need a compatible TiVo as defined on the link above.

Hello Don,

Kindly verify the below mentioned points and let us know the status:-

1. Make sure that AMIDuOS is installed and Gapps update is performed from the administrator user in your system.

2. Sign-out of other users in the device if there are any,and restart your device before gapps update.

3. If still the issue persists kindly uninstall existing AMIDuOS and restart your device. (Make sure AMI folders are removed from Program Files&Program Data and .DuOS named folder is removed from C:\Users\<logged-in-user>\.

(Kindly note that ProgramData and .DuOS folder will be hidden by default)

4.Now perform a clean installation of AMIDuOS, restart your device and try Google apps update.

Refer to the point no IV in this help link if Norton antivirus is installed your device

Hello Donp73,

We really regret for the inconvenience caused. This error is happening due to the incompatibility of Google Play store's old version with 5.1.1 Lollipop version of AMIDuOS.

Kindly follow this help link and try the troubleshooting steps mentioned.

Thanks for your valuable patience and support

I've installed correct and appropriate Gapps... the SAME package acted well with previous versione of 5.1.1 AMIDuOS... so I think it's not that case...

DonP73,

The Play Store update download will take several minutes in background to update to latest version. The latest play store version would be 6.0.5. Could you please confirm the version of play store in your AMIDuOS and status the crashing issue now.

The version can be seen from Play Store -> Settings -> Build version.
